It is free and open-source and is quite powerful compared to its paid counterparts. I used to use LucidChart for my diagramming and it was not the most fun to use and did not have a local installation version. The price was also expensive for my needs. Draw.io has many of the similar features of LucidChart such as templates and connecting lines. It is also much more customizable in the user interface as well. It supports importing Microsoft Visio files too if you want to switch. The only thing that is annoying is the “Layers” panel cannot be docked to a sidebar which means you have to open it every time you open a file and resize it which becomes annoying. Draw.io also doesn’t have some of the features as other paid software but considering it is free, I am not too upset.
